Artist of The Season

ANNA Behnke

Anna’s paintings and assemblages offer a whimsical, even childlike view of the world while still evoking a surreal and sometimes haunted quality. She utilizes repurposed and found objects, while attempting to elevate them to a place worthy of appreciation. Her work can be seen at occasional showings around St. Augustine.

Anna Behnke grew up outside of High Springs, FL on a piece of wooded land that hugged an old lime rock quarry. Her father is a graphic design and fine artist, her mother a teacher and writer. In 2000, Anna came to St. Augustine to attend Flagler College where she earned a degree in fine art. After graduation, she spent five years working and painting in Portland, Oregon, before returning to St. Augustine. She continues to live in the Ancient City, making art and cooking in local restaurants.
